This branch notes the high levels of proposed cuts and compulsory redundancies being imposed by employers across the UK HE sector. Recent developments include:
Brunel University London: 214 proposed redundancies
Canterbury Christ Church University: Proposed cuts of 400 FTE
Cardiff University: proposed cuts of 400 academic roles
Coventry University: Proposed cuts of 300 staff (some to be moved to a subsidiary with worse terms and conditions)
Durham University: Proposed cuts of 200 jobs
UEA: one in six staff at risk of redundancy
Newcastle University: Proposed cuts of £35m
University of Northampton: Proposed cuts of £13m
University of Sunderland: Staff at risk of losing their jobs have been told they cannot tell colleagues they are at risk of compulsory redundancy
University of Sheffield International College: 36 staff at risk of redundancy
This branch reiterates its solidarity with branches forced to take industrial action to defend jobs, working conditions, and the quality of teaching and research in UK higher education.
This branch resolves to send messages of solidarity and donations of £100 to each of the hardship funds of the following branches which currently have a legal mandate for industrial action or are balloting to gain one:
